Break Through to Love
By Victoria Thomas
My father was not an involved nor present parent, and I unconsciously blamed him for my struggles with life and intimacy. When later he was diagnosed with a life threatening disease, I experienced a great surrender to love. During one of our phone conversations, I apologized for blaming him for my struggles. I told him I knew he had always loved me, that he would have taken a bullet for me. I can still hear the tears of joy in his voice as he expressed things I had once longed for him to acknowledge a need, which now had been lifted by love.
This feeling of Love then spread to my mother, who also picked up the phone and set herself free. After 25 years of divorce and upset, my parents were reunited. I will never forget hearing him say, “Baby, I’m dying, but I am so in love with your mother!”
When he died, I was told by a spiritual practitioner that my profound grief was actually love, that my heart had cracked open and love was pouring in and pouring out, and to simply let it happen.
Any sense of desire, loneliness, rejection, abandonment or grief is evidence of the perfect love that is the Source of our being, seeking to be experienced and expressed. We are the givers of love to the world, which begins with self-love and the sweetness of surrender.
The Practice:
Today, at the top of each hour, visualize yourself placing the people, goals, concerns and attachments in your life into a radiant blue light of love’s perfection. Surrender the facts, fears, excuses, expectations, the claims and control. Meet your own heart, acknowledge the cracks, and let the presence of love pour in and pour out. Then watch as your heart becomes the hammer that breaks the shackles of anything unlike love.
